Red Ryder – Great Stage Coach Robbery (1945)

The story has Red Ryder and his aunt, The Duchess, operating a stage line in the 1890’s in Blue Springs. Con Hollister, released from prison and reformed, plans to return the $150,000 loot taken in a stagecoach holdup five years previous. Jed Quinlan, the brains behind a lawless gang, persuades Con’s brash young son, Billy, to join him in the hold-up of the incoming stage carrying Mr. Hollister. Red breaks up the robbery and the gang gets away but not before Hollister recognizes his son as one of the bandits. ‘Boots’ Hollister, Con’s young daughter, is murdered by Quinlan in cold blood as Quinlan is trying to locate the original robbery loot. And then Quinlan has Red suspected as the killer. Starring Bill Elliott as Red Ryder, Robert Blake as Little Beaver, and Alice Fleming as The Duchess—Red’s Aunt.

Red Ryder Phantom of the Plains (1945)

Red Ryder and Little Beaver return to Blue Springs and learn that the Duchess, Red’s aunt, is going to sell her stagecoach line and marry a snooty Englishman Talbot Champneys, who is really Fancy Charlie, who has the nasty habit of marrying rich women and then killing them for their fortune. The concerned Red thinks everything is okay until he sees Champneys mistreating Red’s horse, Thunder, and he then decides to investigate Champneys because, as he tells Little Beaver, no true Englishman would mistreat a horse. Realizing that he doesn’t have much time with Red snooping around, the western Bluebeard persuades the Duchess to return to England with him, meet him at the railroad station to be married and, oh yes, bring her money with her.

Invisible Ghost (1941)

Charles Kessler (Bela Lugosi) is plagued by homicidal urges. His wife (Betty Compson), who had left him for another man, gets into a car accident that leaves her brain damaged and is kept in a cellar in secret, by Kessler's gardener. When an innocent man is executed for a murder Kessler committed in the house, his twin brother visits and tries to unravel the mystery. He discovers that Kessler is the killer and doesn't know it. His brother subdues him and contacts the police, who arrest Kessler.

The Corpse Vanishes (1942)

On the day of Alice Wentworth's wedding, mad scientist Dr. Lorenz sends the young bride an unusual orchid, the scent of which places the young woman in a state of suspended animation resembling death. He then spirits her body away to the basement laboratory of his isolated mansion and extracts glandular fluid from behind her ears to inject into his vain and aged wife in order to renew her youth and beauty. This is only the latest in a series of brides who appear to die at the altar and whose corpses subsequently vanish en route to the hospital or mortuary, and the police are thoroughly baffled. The Devil Bat (1941)

Dr. Carruthers feels bitter at being betrayed by his employers, Heath and Morton, when they became rich as a result of a product he devised. He gains revenge by electrically enlarging bats and sending them out to kill his employers' family members by instilling in the bats a hatred for a particular perfume he has discovered, which he gets his victims to apply before going outdoors. Starring Bela Lugosi, Suzanne Kaaren, and Dave O'Brien. Maybe the Devil Bat is really a Chupacabra!

Kindly soup kitchen operator and professor of criminology Karl Wagner uses his soup kitchen as a front for a criminal gang who commit a series of daring robberies and murders. When things get out of hand, Wagner kills his henchmen, who wind up as zombies in the cellar of the soup kitchen. Starring Bela Lugosi, John Archer, and Wanda McKay. A strange retro-zombie-thriller!

Blonde Savage (1947)

Diamond mine owner Mark Harper hires pilot Steve Blake (Leif Erickson) and his pal Hoppy Owens (Frank Jenks)to search for a hidden jungle village from which the natives have made trouble for his mine operations. They crash near the village and discover that Meelah (Gale Sherwood), a white girl brought up by the natives after her parents had been killed for their property by Harper, is the head of the village. Returning to the mine, Harper, already suspicious of what they may have learned and jealous of the attention his wife, Connie Harper (Veda Ann Borg), is paying to Steve, has them jailed, while he leads an expedition against the village and Meelah. A lost retro-jungle girl movie from the 30s!

Queen of the Amazons (1947)

Preston leads a party to India to investigate the disappearance of her fiance, Greg Jones, but someone manages to thwart their efforts through lies and murder. They pursue the trail to Africa where guide Gary Lambert and his comic cook Gabby guide them into unknown territory. Greg is found living with Zita, a jealous and beautiful Amazon queen. The mysterious deaths continue as Lambert tries to discover who has been dealing in contraband ivory. When he solves that mystery, he also uncovers the identity of the mysterious murderer. Starring Robert Lowery, Patricia Morison, and J. Edward Bromberg. A great retro-jungle movie!

Under California Stars (1948)

Roy has just finished his latest film and leaves for his ranch where he will be broadcasting a show celebrating his tenth year in movies. When Roy and Trigger arrive at his ranch he finds Cookie has hired his relatives. Caroline, the only relative that doesn't have a strong resemblance to Cookie, is the horse trainer. Bob Tells Roy a gang of men are hunting range horses. Roy puts a stop to hunting on his land. Pop decides there's money in kidnapping Trigger and demands a $100,000 ransom. McFarland's stepson, Ted, and his dog Tramp, run away and are found hiding in Roy's barn. A trap is set to catch the kidnappers. Starring Roy Rogers, Trigger, and Jane Frazee. A great retro-western with the greatest horse of all time!

The Mad Monster (1942)

The mad scientist Dr. Cameron has succeeded in his experiments with a serum that will turn a man into a wolf-like monster, and is ready to avenge himself on the men who caused his professional failure. He uses it on his gardener Petro and one after the other is killed by his creation. His daughter, Lenora, grows suspicious and confides with newspaper reporter Tom Gregory. Starring Johnny Downs, George Zucco, and Anne Nagel. Is it a man-made bigfoot? A great retro-horror movie from the 40s!

One Body Too Many (1944)

Insurance salesman Albert Tuttle arrives at the Cyrus J. Rutherford estate to sell the millionaire some life insurance. Rutherford is already dead and his heirs have gathered at the mansion to hear the reading of the will. Rutherford's will won't be read until he is properly entombed and the heirs are forced to stay on the premises or be denied their inheritance. Tuttle soon finds himself mixed up in shenanigans involving Rutherford's niece, secret passages, a missing body and murder. With Jack Haley, Bela Lugosi and Jean Parker. The White Gorilla (1945)

After troubling hunters and natives, the white gorilla fights the king of the black gorillas while we are told by a narrator that the fate of Africa hangs in the balance. The movie was made by editing some 1947 acting into footage from a 1927 silent serial, Perils of the Jungle, starring Frank Merrill the fifth screen Tarzan. A great retro-gorilla movie! Look out Bigfoot!

Sky Raiders (1941)
